Introducing the new Sheridan Dean of University Libraries, Archives, and Museums

On January 3, 2023, Elisabeth M. Long became the Sheridan Dean of University Libraries, Archives, and Museums. A practiced book artist and a collaborative leader who has spent nearly 30 years in progressively responsible roles with the University of Chicago Library, Long is well-positioned to guide the Johns Hopkins Sheridan Libraries & University Museums through its next chapter.

Hopkins faculty and students are engaged in groundbreaking work, and for me, the best part of being a librarian is being able to interact with all the remarkable people who are part of an institution like Johns Hopkins.

Long succeeds Winston Tabb, who served as dean for 20 years and announced his retirement in December 2021 following a distinguished libraries career that spanned five decades.

In 2017 President Daniels and the Johns Hopkins board of trustees established the Winston Tabb Special Collections Research Center to honor Tabb and his commitment to promoting scholarship by encouraging original research using the Sheridan Libraries’ rare books, manuscripts, and archives. The Tabb Center’s fellowships and programming create and promote contributions to the scholarly record.
