| Home > Research Help > Medieval & Renaissance > Using the Catalog Using the JHU Catalog - Try a Subject Search on the author's name. Medieval authors often are known by first name (e.g., thomas aquinas). For later authors put last name before first name (e.g., chaucer, geoffrey). - Try a Subject Search search on the name of the author and look for the subject heading "Criticism and interpretation" (e.g., Hildegard, Saint, 1098-1179 -- Criticism and Interpretation). - Try a Subject Search on the movement or country (e.g., scholasticism, or france--history-- medieval period). - Whenever you find a record for a book that is right on the money, use the Subject Headings in the record to redirect your search to other books with that same subject. Just click on the Subject heading. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
