History of Science

This page lists catalogs, web sites, and other sources to help with finding books, especially old books, from all over the world. See also the Department of Special Collections and Rare Books on A Level.

Most of the resources in History of Medicine are located in the Historical Collection of the Institute of the History of Medicine at the Welch Medicial Library. Collections include journals, monographs, and rare books and manuscripts. For further information contact the librarian, Christine Ruggere, 410-955-3159.

We have many more than what's listed! Please search the library catalog or ask a librarian for more help.

Tips for Getting Started  Selected Reference Tools and Web Sites  Historic E- Books

Tips for getting started:

  • Use a bibliography.  To find them, go to the library catalog. Put the word "bibliography" in as a subject keyword, and put a word in as a title keyword or author keyword, such as "ecology" or "helmoltz."
  • Go to Special Collections on A Level.  Browse their reference shelves to see what kinds of lists of materials they have, and ask them to help you find others. (Several of their reference sets are on the chart, below.)

The chart shows just a few examples of the library's tools and selected web sites for finding historical books. For others, please use the library catalog or ask a librarian.
