This guide lists Web sites, reference tools, databases, and search strategies that will of use to students in Scientific French 210.206.   Students are welcome to schedule an appointment for additional assistance with research for this class or for assistance with any of the resources referenced on this guide.

Students may also wish to consult the Librarians for Science, offices located on C Level of the library:

Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, and other Reference Books
Dictionnaire scientifique anglais-français.  C Level Science Reference : Q 123 .B46 1994  (2007 edition on order)
Dictionnaire technique et scientifique.  C Level Science Reference : T 10.G68 1994
DARE's dictionary of environmental sciences and engineering : English-French-Arabic. C Level Science Reference : GE 10.D37 2003
Soil and environmental science dictionary. C Level Science Reference : S 592 .S59 2001
There are many French-English science dictionaries. Try a keyword search on "english dictionaries french" plus whatever discipline you are interested in. Example: "english dictionaries french geology"

Find Articles on French Science

To identify articles in any of the sciences, use the indexes listed under the individual discilpines on the main database page for e-resources.

Some of the databases will let you limit your search to the French language; or, alternativley, you can include "France" in your search terms.

Once you have searched and found some articles, look for this icon:  Find It  in the record for the article. It will connect you to the online article, if it is available. If the article isn't online, it will allow you to search the Libraries catalog and locate the hard coy.

Find Recent Books in French on Scientific Topics

JHU Libraries Catalog

To search for books about the sciences in France use the Advanced Keyword Search option. Type in your keywords, and then limit your search to the French language. You can also limit by date.

Try any combination of Keywords, in French or English.
