Finding information on Baltimore structures can be challenging. It is unlikely you will find an entire book on any of the specific structures in Baltimore beyond the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. Two good overviews of Baltimore structures are: 1. The architecture of Baltimore: an illustrated history / edited by Mary Ellen Hayward and Frank R. Shivers, Jr. ; with a foreword by Richard Hubbard Howland ; contributions from Robert L. Alexander MSEL Call Number NA735.B3 A73 There are copies in the General Reference, Stacks, and in Special Collections. This book has a good bibliography, which can point you to other resources. 2. Baltimore, industrial gateway on the Chesapeake Bay / by the Benjamin Latrobe, Jr. Chapter of The Society for Industrial Archeology; edited by Dennis M. Zembala. MSEL Call Number Eisenhower Stacks T22.B34 B34 1995 QUARTO Doing a subject search in the catalog can give you other overview books. Some suggestions for subject searches are: Baltimore (Md.) -- Buildings. Architecture -- Maryland -- Baltimore. Baltimore (Md.) -- Buildings, structures, etc. First, try searching for your structure in Compendex or Avery. If you do not have any luck there, give Academic Search Premier a shot. Still no luck, try Art Abstracts. Second, if you're still having problems consider searching for the architect's or engineering company's name combined with the term Baltimore. Third, if you're still not having any luck finding anything call me (410-516-0809) or email me. Finally, I'm going to assume you've already done a Google search and searched Structurae (I like the fact that this database includes a good selection of literature cited with the information about a structure). Other last ditch efforts include - search WorldCat (catalog of 41,000 other libraries) or the catalogs of the other area libraries listed below. You would have to interlibrary loan anything you found, but you would at least have some material. You can also consider contacting the Baltimore City Planning Department (410-396-4329). |
