Overview of Resources for English Literary Studies

Overview of Resources for
English Literary Studies

The Milton S. Eisenhower Memorial Library's collection of literature in English is extensive in both scope and depth. It includes not only literature from England and the United States, but also literary writings in English from Ireland, Canada, Africa, India, Australia, New Zealand, and the Caribbean. Hopkins’ collections in these areas are augmented by the splendid resources of its Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Department.

Please contact Don Juedes, Librarian for English and American Literature, for research assistance or to recommend additions to this guide.

Types of Materials

Hopkins holds relevant materials in monograph, serial, microform, and electronic formats. Literary manuscripts and archives are held by Special Collections.

For access to monographic resources, search the JHU Libraries' online catalog, through other individual library catalogs around the world and combined catalogs, such as Worldcat.

You can also search for electronic resources, including electronic journals and databases.

Online Databases
The list below is only a small number of electronic resources available to Hopkins' patrons studying English and American Literature. For a more extensive selection, see the webpage for Literary Electronic Resources. You can also search for specific databases. Alternately, the research help pages on specific time periods include databases that are strong in those subject areas.
