WilsonWeb provides bibliographic citations and selected full-text for articles published in various disciplines. Databases included are: Choosing a Database: Select one or more databases from the menu by marking the box next to the name of the database. Click on Search for Basic Search, or SearchPlus for Advanced. Your search will be executed across the selected databases simultaneously. Searching: Basic Search Screen: Enter search terms in the search field. You may narrow the search to particular publication years and to particular fields (author, title, subject). Click Search Now button. Advanced Search (Search Plus) Screen: Advanced Search allows you to enter multiple terms and use the Boolean operators (and, or, not) to combine terms to qualify your search results. And will search for records containing both terms. Or will retrieve records containing either term. Not will eliminate records containing a certain term. Advanced Search also allows you to limit your results to online, full-text only or peer-reviewed articles only. The peer-reviewed check box is useful for limiting a search to scholarly publications. You may also limit by publication type from the drop-down box or designate particular time intervals. Other Search Operators/Truncation: In addition to and, or and not, you may combine search terms in the text box, using the following: In Finds records that contain a term in a specific field. Near Finds records that contain both terms in the same sentence. With Finds records that contain both terms in the same field. An asterisk will retrieve variations on a word after a designated letter. For example, manager* will retrieve manager, managers, managerial, etc. A question mark will substitute for a single letter within a word.
Help: From the bottom of the search screen, click Help and Help Contents for additional guidance and examples. Display Results: If full-text is available, a PDF or HTML, full-text link will display directly under the record number within the results list. Ten records will display per screen. To view the next page, Click Next 10. To view the previous screen, click Previous 10. While viewing the results, you may mark the records of interest by checking the record number box. To display the marked record list, choose Show Marked. Printing, Downloading, E-mailing: From the results screen, highlight the Print, Save or E-mail command listed within WilsonWeb in red. Indicate which records you want. You may also include search history or record numbers. Change Display will enable you to specify how and which fields display and how records are sorted. If printing, click Display for Print. Wilson Web displays the selected records without extraneous graphics. Choose the Print command from your internet browser to actually print. If e-mailing, select the format (text vs. HTML markup language). Enter an e-mail address in the Mail Records to box. Enter a subject header if desired. Click Mail. If saving, insert your disk, specify a drive and directory. Logout: Due to a limited number of simultaneous users, please click on Logout at the bottom, or on the right side, of the screen when you are finished using WilsonWeb. |
