SFX

The Sheridan Libraries' Systems Team manages the SFX OpenURL link resolution server on behalf of the JHU libraries.

The service, called "JHU SFX," enables library patrons to click on a link inside a citation database, which will reveal a menu of specific services the Hopkins libraries provide for the citation.  This allows a patron to jump directly from a citation to the online full text version of the article, if it is available among JHU's full text subscriptions.  The service also offers a Citation Linker at http://sfx.library.jhu.edu:8000/citation/jhu_sfx into which patrons may manually input citations to find available services.

SFX is a software product of Ex Libris http://www.exlibrisgroup.com.  Ex Libris provides a monthly update reflecting the changes in standard e-journal subscription packages, and an SFX software update.

The Sheridan Libraries run SFX on a SUN application server running the Solaris operating system.

Site Executive

The Sheridan Libraries have selected Site Executive as the content management system for our Web site.  Site Executive incorporates security, version control, workflow options, a simple interface for robust custom development, template creation, administrative management tools and dynamic link management.  A product of Systems Alliance http://www.systemsalliance.com, Site Executive is a Cold Fusion application that is installed on servers managed by the Johns Hopkins University Enterprise Services Information Technology Division.

Library Digital Projects

The Library Digital Projects IT architecture provides a foundation for developing, implementing, and sustaining digital projects at the Sheridan Libraries.  Its goals are to provide a cost-effective, modular storage platform and to develop a scalable service oriented architecture, capable of meeting the diverse technology challenges facing libraries today.

Currently the Sheridan Libraries are in the process of implementing this architecture with support from various technology vendors, including Apple Computer, Foundry Networks, and ADIC.

For details on ongoing projects and new project proposals, please visit the Digital Knowledge Center Web site at http://www.dkc.jhu.edu.
