The Western European Studies Section (WESS) of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) held an international conference to coincide with the Salon du Livre in Paris, March 22-26, 2004.  ACRL, the fiscal sponsor of WESS, is a division of the American Library Association.

Resolutions adopted at the conclusion of the Conference:

    • The attendees at the Paris Conference on "Migrations in Society, Culture, and the Library" congratulate the organizers, the presenters, and the sponsors, on a remarkably fine conference, which identified important theoretical perspectives, distinctive programs, and
    ongoing research and product development.
    And the attendees recommend that WESS initiate planning activities leading to a third international conference to be held in Europe within 5-7 years.

  • Resolution on a French-North American Resources Project. The Conference acknowledges the presentation by Tom Kilton, "A French-American Resources Project" and recommends that WESS investigate the feasibility of initiating such a project. The project's purpose is to
    facilitate cooperative programs between French and North American libraries that would benefit libraries and their users on both sides of the Atlantic. Such a project would provide for the establishment of personal ties between library specialists in multiple areas, such as document delivery, digitization, collaborative collection building, and bibliographic control.
