Charge:

Officially charged in 2004 as the Film Preservation Committee, the Recorded Image and Sound Preservation Committee is a university-wide group that meets quarterly to:

  • Identify the various moving picture film & magnetic video and sound media collections throughout the university
  • Assist in educating the research community to the existence of these collections
  • Educate curators and staff on the preservation issues associated with film, video and sound collections
  • Provide for curators and staff training to conduct condition reviews and recognize the forms of deterioration and damage
  • Assist with condition reviews and preservation grant applications
  • Recommend both short-term and long-term preservation strategies

Membership:

Our members represent their respective institutions. Their job duties involve working with the care, use, creation, preservation, description of, and/or access to motion picture film, video, and sound recordings. Participation is voluntary, but each member and institution have recognized the mutual benefits of coordinating our efforts and sharing information, knowledge and (whenever possible) resources. At the time the committee was charged, it was specified that The Sheridan Libraries' Preservation Department would provide the Chair.
