Appendix E: Prioritization Criteria for Digital Projects


As a first step, the Executive Committee brainstormed a list of possible criteria without comment or ranking. This list included:

  • Faculty and community support
  • Scholarly significance
  • Enhancing the collection's profile
  • Project visibility
  • Availability of skills locally
  • Existing funding commitments
  • Ability to attract additional / new funding
  • Revenue generation- publishing - sales
  • Research support
  • Public relations
  • Teaching support
  • Support for school priorities/ support of University programs
  • Breadth of impact
  • Attracting new faculty
  • Preservation needs
  • Uniqueness of material
  • Potential for collaboration

The Executive Committee then selected individual criteria and prioritized them according to the nominal group technique exercise (http://www.deboldgroup.com/TQM/nominal.htm). Based on this exercise, the final, rank-ordered list comprised:

  1. Research Support
  2. Faculty / Community Support
  3. Teaching Support
  4. Support of School priorities
  5. Uniqueness of material
  6. Enhancing collection's profile
  7. Existing funding
  8. Preservation needs
  9. Ability to attract new funding
  10. Potential collaboration
