| Home > Collections > Rare Books and Manuscripts > Using Special Collections > Image Publication Use Policy Image Publication Use Policy Special Collections supports and encourages the publication of material in its collections as long as the use is consistent with the educational mission of the Sheridan Libraries. Public, private, commercial and non-profit organizations may use images of our material for publication subject to the following conditions: 1. A Request to Publish Materials form must be submitted prior to publication. When the use is approved and the use fee (if applicable) is paid, a Permission to Publish Materials will be returned to applicant. 2. Publication of material is permitted only from a glossy photograph, a color transparency, or a digital image ordered through Special Collections in advance. Use of color transparencies is limited to rental, and transparencies must be returned to Special Collections. The request for digital images must be accompanied with the desired file format noted. 3. The proposed publication/production must result in a suitable presentation of the original image. All alterations to the original image, such as the superimposition of text, cropping, the addition of color, must be approved by the Curator of Special Collections. 4. Permission to publish images is granted for non-exclusive, one-time use and only for the purpose specified in the request. Any different use (second editions, special editions, etc.) must be applied for in writing and is subject to additional use fees. 5. Appropriate credit must be given. The credit line specified on the Permission to Publish Materials form must be used with each item reproduced, preferably near the image. 6. In the case of printed materials, the publisher must send Special Collections a copy of the publication containing the photograph(s) listed on the Permission form. 7. Any and all charges incurred by Special Collections in supplying the materials to the user shall be borne by the user according to current fee schedule and prices. An additional usage fee may be assessed on all publication requests. 8.
