Will D. Cobb and Gus Edwards were another team that produced hit after hit. In 1907 their inspirational boy-and-girl waltz School Days was unquestionably the hit of the year and the most successful of the many numbers that this pair produced. Edwards, incidentally, later produced stage performances with a group of youngsters he called “school boys and girls.” Among those who got their start on the road to fame as members of Gus Edwards’ children’s troupes were Eddie Cantor, George Jessel, and Walter Winchell.Cover of Meet Me in St. LouisKerry Mills, who composed the music for Red Wing in 1907, had scored ten years earlier with the most popular cakewalk of the day, At a Georgia Camp Meeting and in 1904 with Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis.  The public’s fascination with Indian subjects made “Red Wing” one of the period’s hits in this field.

Carrie Jacobs-Bond attempted to support herself and her small son with her musical compositions. Many had been rejected by the publishers as being “too artistic,” but she refused to be discouraged. Eventually she succeeded, publishing a half dozen of her own songs, such as the 1907 I Love You Truly, a staple song at wedding ceremonies.
Karl Hoschna, who was born in Bohemia, came to the United States as an oboist when he was twenty and was soon playing in orchestras led by Victor Herbert. In 1908 Hoschna teamed with Otto Hauerbach to produce the musical Three Twins. Two of the most successful songs from that show were Cuddle Up a Little Closer, Lovey Mine and The Yama-Yama Man.  It was quite common that one cover, or a simple variation on it, would be used for all the songs from a musical.
