Cardinal Shehan and Jacob Blaustein

One of the aims of the American Jewish Committee, starting in the 1950s, was to have Catholic bishops issue a statement deploring anti-Semitism.  The Second Vatican Council in 1965 issued a declaration that repudiated the charge of the collective guilt of the Jews for the death of Jesus.  This was viewed as a long-overdue act of justice.  Material in this series documents Blaustien's efforts in this cause and his relationship with Cardinal Lawrence J. Shehan.
