Current Fiction and Non-Fiction Collection (also known as the McNaughton Collection )

This plan is a way for libraries to rent popular fiction and non-fiction books with the option of keeping the books permanently or sending them back to the company.  For more information, see the FAQ below.

FAQ

Where are they shelved?
The Current Fiction and Non-Fiction Collection is located on M-level of MSEL in the Lobby (next to the soft/comfortable seating).

What is the circulation period?
McNaughton books circulate for two weeks with one renewal.  They are not available for holds or recalls.

How many books may I check out at one time?
 Five.

What happens if the books are returned late?
The overdue fine for McNaughton books is $1.00 per day per item.

How are the books arranged?
We arrange them by the author's last name, but since this is a browsing collection, the books may not remain in alphabetical order.

How can I tell that a book is from the McNaughton Collection?

  • there is a light green stripe at the bottom of the spine;
  • the dust jackets are left on the books; and
  • there are no JHU call numbers appear on the spine of the books.

How many books are in the collection?
We add approximately 20 books per month to the collection with a maximum amount of 500.

Where can I send recommendations for titles and/or authors?
Keeping in mind that titles are selected from a pre-defined list of current authors and titles, please send recommendations to Leigh Anne Palmer.

What happens to the books if we keep them ?
Books added to the collection will be assigned a call number then will go to the off-site shelving facility, aka the Libraries Services Center, or Eisenhower Stacks.

This collection of materials is made possible through the generous funding of Charlton G.C. Friedberg, a member of The Friends of the Libraries.
