Specialized Census of Population and Housing Resources
Here are listed resources that allow you to create more customized spread sheets or use statistical packages to extract demographic information. 

  • Census 2000 Summary Files on DVD
  • Available from work stations number 1 and 2 in Govt. Publications
  • CensusCD Neighborhood Change Database (Geolytics)
  • Census Summary Files from Geolytics (2000, 1990, 1980, 1970)
  • DataFerret
    DataFerrett is an application that ferrets out data on The DataWeb. TheDataWeb is network of online data libraries. Topics include, census data, economic data, health data, income and unemployment data, population data, labor data, cancer data, crime and transportation data, family dynamics, vital statistics data. You will need to install DataFerrett application.

  • Historical and Contemporary Population Characteristics
    These data are in ascii format.  Use your favorite statistical package to analyze.
  • Public Use Microdata Samples (PUMS) The Public Use Microdata Samples (PUMS) are files containing a 1% and 5% sample of the 1990 Census records. This is a sample of the housing units with information on the characteristics of each unit and each person in it. While preserving confidentiality (by removing identifiers), these microdata files permit users with special needs to prepare virtually any calculation from the census they wish. These are raw data files. 
  • Census PUMS
    Download from census or inquire about PUMS on DVD (C3.285: P 96)
    DVD provides windows interface
  • MicroAnalyst - CD-Rom product located in the Government Publications Library. Ask for the CD's at the GPML Reference desk. Windows interface simplifies using the PUMS. MicroAnalyst allows you to save files in several formats.
