Gifts-in-Kind Policy

The Eisenhower Library welcomes gifts of books and library materials in other formats that support the instructional and research programs of the University. Of particular interest are scholarly items in good physical condition with value for fields in which the University sponsors teaching and research. The Library does not accept titles inappropriate to an academic collection, fragmentary runs of journals, or books that are underlined, mutilated, or otherwise in poor condition, or titles excessively duplicating existing library holdings.

Acceptance

Gifts-in-kind are accepted with the understanding that once received, they are owned by the University. The Library retains the right to accept or decline gifts and reserves the right to dispose of any donated material not selected for the collection.

Appraisal

Donors who wish an evaluation of their gifts for tax purposes should consult th e Internal Revenue Service’s Publication #561, Determining the Value of Donated Property. The appraisal of a gift to the library for tax purposes is the responsibility of the donor who benefits from a tax deduction. Upon request, the Library can suggest independent appraisers whom the donor may engage.

Acknowledgement

Acknowledgement letters are sent for all accepted gifts. Although specific as to the quantity of material donated, the letters do not provide a listing of the individual titles donated.
