Access to Public Workstations Policy

Purpose of policy:

  • Provide adequate seating and workstations for JHU faculty, staff and students by reserving a majority of the seated workstations for use by affiliates.
  • Maintain access to as many workstations as possible for non-JHU academic users and unaffiliated, independent scholars.

Access to public workstations:

  • We will provide a mix of open workstations and workstations that require a JHED login, all of which have access to resources licensed for use at Hopkins.
    • Seated workstations will require a JHED login
    • Standing workstations will be available for all library users.
  • Affiliate logins will be provided at the library's discretion. They will be issued readily for those in the below categories:
    • ADA Compliance
    • JHU affiliated programs (e.g. CTY, Space Telescope, Carnegie, etc)
    • Possession of a MSEL borrowing card
  • Requests for affiliate logins may be made at the Circulation Desk from 8am - 8pm.

Affiliate login terms are:

Fall: August 20 - December 31
Spring: Jan 1 - June 1
Summer: June 2 - August 19

Persons falling outside the above criteria may request an exception to the workstation policy by submitting a Workstation Exception Request form to the Circulation Desk. Requests will be forwarded for approval by the designated library official. Upon approval, requesters will be notified via email and on their next visit, given a password for use throughout the remainder of the term (defined above).

See more information about public computers in the library.
