JOSHUA ELSE NAMED ASSISTANT DEAN FOR DEVELOPMENT FOR LIBRARIES

Joshua Else, who has more than 10 years of experience in management, fund-raising, consulting and volunteer leadership, has been appointed assistant dean for development at the Sheridan Libraries of The Johns Hopkins University

Else comes to Johns Hopkins from American Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he was director of major gifts. Previously, he was general manager of a publishing firm in Hawaii. From 1996 to 2000, he worked at Wake Forest University, where he was director of annual support for the university and director of development at the law school.

Else will direct a comprehensive development program for the libraries, overseeing major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations and volunteer leadership.

"Josh Else is a skilled communicator with an impressive command of fund raising in an academic setting," said Winston Tabb, dean of university libraries. "His vision, initiative, and creativity will be crucial assets to the Sheridan Libraries' development initiatives."

Sheridan Libraries fund raising is part of the Johns Hopkins Knowledge for the World campaign. Commitments now total more than $1.74 billion, 87 percent of the campaign’s $2 billion goal. The Sheridan Libraries' goal is $30 million, $16.5 million of which has been raised.

Else is a 1993 graduate of Wake Forest University and earned an MBA from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu in 2002.

The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the Hutzler Reading Room, Garrett Library and the George Peabody Library.
