| Home > About Us > News > Press Releases > 2005 Press Releases > Art in Clay Featured in Peabody Exhibition January 24, 2005 ART IN CLAY FEATURED IN GEORGE PEABODY LIBRARY EXHIBITION The works of more than 40 artists from the Baltimore Clayworks studio showcase the numerous possibilities of art in clay in Maryland Clay, a juried exhibition of over 80 works at the Peabody Library, which runs from February 1 through March 31. The exhibit is free and open to the public. "We are delighted to be among the cultural and educational institutions in Mt. Vernon collaborating in this tribute to ceramic art and artists," said Winston Tabb, dean of university libraries at Johns Hopkins. "Maryland Clay is a wonderful complement to the Peabody's rich collection in the decorative arts." "This is an eclectic exhibition filled with variety and creativity," noted juror Jimmy Clark, executive director, Peters Valley Craft Education Center in Layton, New Jersey. "The selected works vary in scale from miniature to monolithic, from fully functional to strictly sculptural, from traditional to cutting edge. Almost every conceivable technique employed in constructing and firing ceramic art is represented in this show." Deborah Bedwell, executive director of Baltimore Clayworks and Clark are the featured speakers at the opening reception on February 3 at 5 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public, but guests must call 410-578-1919 to register. The public may view the works of art between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday and between noon and 5 p.m. on Sundays. Evening showings will take place on Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 18 between 5 and 9 p.m. Maryland Clay is presented in conjunction with Tour de Clay, a six-week celebration of ceramic art featuring over 170 exhibitions throughout the state of Maryland. The George Peabody Library, located at 17 E. Mt. Vernon Place, is one of the Sheridan Libraries of The Johns Hopkins University, and part of the research library collections that serve Johns Hopkins academic program worldwide. The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S.
