|  | Home > About Us > News > Press Releases > Archives of Press Releases 2004 > Teaching the Humanities Goes Digital November 1, 2004 Teaching the Humanities Goes Digital A symposium that will explore the cutting edge digital tools and techniques for teaching Humanities courses will be held at The Johns Hopkins University on Tuesday, Nov. 9 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by the university’s Center for Educational Resources, the symposium is free and open to all Baltimore-area Humanities faculty. The symposium, entitled, “Humanities Education in the Digital Age: Enriching Undergraduate Courses with the Web,” will kick off with remarks by Michael Poliakoff, director of the Division of Education Programs at the National Endowment for Humanities, who will also address current NEH priorities. This event will take place in the Bloomberg Auditorium on the Homewood campus of Johns Hopkins, 3400 N. Charles Street. Course resources for the humanities—such as electronic time lines, online image archiving, illustrated glossaries, peer review writing environments, and interactive maps—will be demonstrated, and free software tools, designed to be easily integrated into any institution's courses, will be shared with participants. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore all projects through digital poster sessions at a reception that will follow the symposium. Disciplines as diverse as History, Film and Media Studies, Art History, Writing, Museum Studies, and Philosophy will be highlighted and discussed.
