June 3, 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA CONTACT: Pamela Higgins (410) 516-8337 pamela.higgins@jhu.edu JOHNS HOPKINS LIBRARIES REORGANIZE TO SUPPORT LIBRARY SERVICES AND DIGITAL INITIATIVES The Sheridan Libraries have created a new executive structure to support digital initiatives and library services. "With technological innovation now at the core of so many of the Libraries' programmatic and service initiatives, the time had come to create a structure that focuses on planning, integration and implementation efforts, while retaining the collaborative spirit, entrepreneurial outlook and customer focus that typifies the Sheridan Libraries," said Winston Tabb, dean of university libraries at Johns Hopkins. Under the reorganization, Sayeed Choudhury was promoted to the new position of associate director for library digital programs. While continuing to serve as Hodson Director of the Digital Knowledge Center, Choudhury will oversee the Libraries' research and development activities and will also coordinate the programmatic development of the numerous digital initiatives currently planned or in progress across the Libraries. Deborah Slingluff was promoted to associate director for library services. Slingluff was head of access services prior to the reorganization, and will now be responsible for managing all core library public and technical services activities, including preservation. Slingluff, Choudhury and associate director for operations Ken Flower will serve with Dean Tabb as the Executive Committee of the Sheridan Libraries Management Team. The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the Hutzler Reading Room, Garrett Library and the George Peabody Library. ### Johns Hopkins University news releases can be found on the World Wide Web at: Headlines@Hopkins
