CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION NOW ACCESSIBLE ACROSS JOHNS HOPKINS

The Sheridan Libraries are pleased to announce Johns Hopkins Institutions-wide access to the Chronicle of Higher Education. Johns Hopkins is one of only eight institutions participating in a one-year trial of a site license to the Chronicle, the academic world's top source of news and information.

Anyone using a computer connected to the JHU network may access the full text of the Chronicle directly. JHU users may also connect from off-campus via the RAUL (Remote Access to University Libraries) service; see http://proxy.hcf.jhu.edu/. The URL for the Chronicle is http://chronicle.com/.

JHU faculty, students and staff now have access to the entire Chronicle Web site, which includes daily updates as well as supplements that do not appear in the print edition. The complete contents of the newspaper, which is printed on Friday, are available on the Web site the following Monday morning. In addition to the current issue, the archive of more than 12 years of the Chronicle is available and fully searchable.

Features of the Chronicle online include:

  • A daily briefing on developments in higher education
  • Daily reports on developments in information technology of interest to faculty and administrators
  • Daily updates on grant opportunities
  • Statistical data about everything from faculty salaries to campus crime
  • Issues in Depth: collections of articles, documents, and data on some of the most important issues in higher education
  • Links to Internet resources for higher education
  • Career Network, which includes advice on careers in academe and a searchable database of job notices

The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the Hutzler Reading Room, Garrett Library and the George Peabody Library.
