October 25, 2001 FREE EXHIBIT ON THE RMS TITANIC: A SHIPBUILDING LEGEND The George Peabody Library presents a free exhibit on the RMS Titanic that features historic photos, books and other artifacts, including actual rivets used in early 20th century shipbuilding, that capture the excitement of the luxury liner's construction. Featuring dozens of rare and interesting items in 10 display cases, the Peabody exhibit on the RMS Titanic assembles books and papers from the Peabody collection, as well as private collections and photographs and documents from Ireland, where the Titanic was constructed. The famous ship, dubbed "unsinkable" by the popular press, collided with an iceberg on April 14, 1912, and sank in only two hours and 40 minutes, taking 1,522 lives. The shipwreck was discovered in 1985. The exhibit will run through January 2, 2002, and is free and open to the public. The George Peabody Library is located at 17 East Mount Vernon Place, and is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. For information, call 410/659-8179. The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the Hutzler Reading Room, Garrett Library and the George Peabody Library. ### Johns Hopkins University news releases can be found on the World Wide Web at: Headlines@Hopkins | ||||||||||||||
