November 30, 2000
The Johns Hopkins University has implemented a new policy that establishes a $250,000 library collection endowment for each new endowed professorship. The creation of the Blum-Iwry Professorship in Near Eastern Studies launches the new program, with the initial collection endowment established at the university's Sheridan Libraries. Adopted by university deans upon the recommendation of the provost and vice president of development and alumni relations, the new policy will enable the libraries to build collections in the discipline of the endowed professors. "We are fortunate at Johns Hopkins to have in place such a creative and progressive strategy for assuring development of our collections in areas of research priority," remarked Jim Neal, dean of university libraries. The expansion of the endowment was a priority in the Libraries' recently completed fund raising campaign. Over $39 million was raised for the Sheridan Libraries, with 40 new endowment funds established for acquisitions. The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the Hutzler Reading Room, Garrett Library and the George Peabody Library. ### Johns Hopkins University news releases can be found on the World Wide Web at Headlines @ Hopkins | ||||||||||||||
