Now in its third year, the competition recognizes the range and variety of Hopkins' student efforts on the Web and rewards the best of these efforts. Seniors Steve Tsai and Feras Mousilli won first prize cash award of $1,500 for their site, Osteoporosis: Web Resources, which provides a wealth of information on the disease. Tying for second place and sharing the prize of $1,000 were junior Adrian C. Russo, for The College Experience, a guide for college from a student's perspective, and senior Bill Holady for Multiple Degree Programs at Peabody, a resource for new students interested in an inter-divisional double major. The sites all demonstrate the power of the Web as an interactive medium for communicating information that has intellectual value. A panel of judges comprised of faculty and staff from the Sheridan Libraries and Hopkins Information Technology Services evaluated the thirty-two entries submitted by undergraduate students. The first student web site contest in 1997 was the inspiration of then Friends of the Libraries Council member Huntington Williams III, now president of the Friends of the Libraries. Williams is and Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Community of Science, Inc., in Baltimore, a leading web site for scientists and scholars which provides information on research funding, and promotes their research and collaboration with peers worldwide. The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the Hutzler Reading Room, Garrett Library and the George Peabody Library. ### Johns Hopkins University news releases can be found on the World Wide Web at Headlines @ Hopkins | ||||||||||||||
