Mastering Music in the Renaissance Catalog

INTRODUCTION

The quintessential elements of musical education for both Renaissance men and women are revealed in this  exhibition.  Beautifully illustrated rare books and manuscripts with exquisite woodcuts and engravings from Johns Hopkins’ Sheridan and Friedheim Libraries, the Walters Art Museum, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the Library of Congress and stringed and wind instruments from the Peabody Conservatory are among the works displayed.

The exhibition complements the conference "Learning to Play and Sing in the Renaissance (Students, Teachers, and Materials of Musical Learning, 1470-1650)," which will be held at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, June 2-4, 2005.
