INTRODUCTION
This special exhibition celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Peabody Institute–the first major intellectual and arts center in an American city.  George Peabody’s vision transformed the cultural landscape of 19th-century Baltimore.  Today’s internationally renowned music conservatory and superb research library are a testament to his enduring legacy.

Spanning three centuries, the exhibition is drawn from the collections of the Archives of the Peabody Institute and the George Peabody Library and features letters, portraits, vintage and contemporary photographs, concert programs, scores, CDs and other artifacts documenting the Institute’s remarkable history and the vision for its future.
