Starting Salary:

Manage and conduct all activities pertaining to Museum Shops including, budget, research for inventory, purchasing, pricing, selling, shipping and deliveries, invoice payments, and inventory using accepted museum and university accounting practices. Work with budget manager to create an annual budget and to establish policies and procedures for: cash handling, credit card processing, maintenance of accurate inventory records, processing all bank deposits, cash accounting reports, sales tax documentation, and annual shop licensing. Coordinate staffing for both shops with visitor services/house assistant or house managers. Train other staff and volunteers in general shop operations.

Merchandizing/Sales Design and maintain attractive displays for both shops. Work with other museum departments, PR/Marketing, Membership, Curatorial, and Programs to develop creative strategies and incentives to promote sales, and to identify collection- and exhibition-related products for inventory. Conduct ongoing research of catalogs, gift shows, other museum shops and offerings of interest to both shops for purchase. Launch new sales initiatives which may include: Sales through museums’ websites, use of online auctions to increase exposure for inventory, Solicitation of donated items for sale in shop, A consignment sales program for art, antiques, collectibles, household items, and books in keeping with the houses’ relevant subjects and mission. Initiate product development in consultation with curators that is collection and/or exhibition related and explore the possibility of wholesale sales of our products to other venues. Qualifications:

High school diploma required; some college helpful. Business experience; must have ability to flex schedule for some occasional evenings and weekends. Must have own car (for transporting merchandise between shops).

Preferred Qualifications:

College degree.
